Sick of those annoying aliases in your product file, you know the ones, products starting with A in their code and no description. Well they’re gone, but don’t worry the barcodes that they were holding for you are now tucked away in the product screen where they belong.

Party Time...
A huge thank you to all who attended our “Pre – Release” party on Tuesday 29th it was so good to see so many business people in one space. Listening to the swapping of success stories and seeing how many of you are excited about the economic environment ahead.  We kicked off the Acumen Elite sessions expecting to run each session for around 30min. Clients got to see how the Elite software will integrate into their business models, 30 minute expanded out to 60 minutes then questions started flowing. This was great, and exactly why we wanted to make this pre-release in the first place. Feedback was that everybody could see how flexible the new version is in allowing the software to adapt itself to their everyday needs and future plans.

Clients who attended our “Pre – Release” had a first chance opportunity to take home a CD containing a copy of the Elite software. Once you have successfully installed your software you will have the ability to play with the software using your very own data converted from your current Acumen software. I’m looking for feedback!!! Those of you who couldn’t attend will be receiving their copy in the mail soon.
 
But wait there’s more…
Included in the “Pre – Release” system is an upgrade facility. As we complete more new facilities and improve on the system (thanks to your feedback!) you will be able to download these updated via the software and an internet connection. Also we will be distributing a series of help and documentation files to fill you in on how to get the most from Elite.

Elite Product Series - Tip #8

This feature should be the favourite of all accounts personnel, I know I use it all the time. All of you will be familiar with multi select and some of you will have used this to select invoices to place on a receipt or journal. In Elite there is a simple new pop up tip that is available whenever you have a multiple selection in progress on a screen where there are columns that are totalled (such as Transaction List, Invoice List, Cashbook, etc).
 
The pop up tip shows the total value of the items currently selected. This makes it very easy to manually select invoices for allocation to receipts or payments as you can easily see the total value of what you have selected so far.

Elite Product Series - Tip #7

Hi yall, Here’s another episode in the Acumen Elite features series.
 
Today let’s talk about tab order. You know when you press enter (or for the Microsoft hardliners the tab key) the system moves to the next field in the data entry sequence. With Acumen you could practice some dark magic and perhaps after making an appropriate sacrifice and chanting the obligatory curses you could get the system to go where you wanted. But, if you strayed off the beaten path then you seemed to wander aimlessly around the screen never to return without the aid of the good ol mouse.
 
Well Elite changes all that. Recording a tab sequence is simple, to start you hold down Shift and Control while you click the first field you want your tab order to begin with. Then you simply keep your finger on the shift key while you click from control to control. The system records the sequence and you can save it as part of your screen design.
 
But here’s the good bit. You can record multiple paths! Lets say you are recording a path for the Cash sales screen. You start at the document code then go to Staff, Customer and finally product code so you can scan them in. Then after you have recorded your main sequence you can go back and add alternate paths. For example you might go to the customer name field and then using the shift key again you record a path from name to address to town then on to Product again. What this lets you do is that when you are selling to a miscellaneous customer you can use the down arrow from the customer code field to enter the name field. Then the enter (or Tab) key will take you through the address and town before joining the normal sequence again back at product.
 
You can have as many alternate paths as there are fields on the screen. The system simply records where it should go next from the field you are currently at. When these alternate paths meet with the main path the system simply carries on down the main path as if it was always there.

New Dimensions
The multiple dimension system has also been enhanced and now supports two new types. You can still have up to 3 dimensions of a product (in addition to the quantity being sold). Now each dimension can be one of the following:
  • Normal – a variable dimension that is input at the POS (may have a default value)
  • Fixed – does not change at the POS but is part of the price multiplication
  • Extended – a special dimension used for items like tiles where there is a unit (such as square metres) and a multiplier (eg. Number of tiles in 1 square metre)
Display – dimensions that are displayed but DO NOT multiple the quantity

Rounding Up the Right Price
The product rounding system has been redeveloped in Elite with the most significant change being that rounded prices are now stored on file not calculated at the point of sale. This change makes it easier when looking on screens and running reports to see the same numbers all the time. When a new price is imported the new sell can be calculated and rounded and stored to file for you to preview. You can then edit this if desired and not have the system re-round it on you. When you accept prices the new prices is moved to the live prices and away you go.
 
The new rounding system is formula based so it is now possible for us to develop custom rounding techniques based on individual clients needs. To ensure that your margin does not creep up into unreasonable prices you can also set a default markup that the system will use when new costs arrive before rounding is applied.

Elite Product Series - Tip #4

Better in Bulk
The bulk buy and bulk sell facilities have been rolled into one bigger and better bulk quantities facility. You can now specify a bulk sell discount and/or bulk buy price on the one entry. What’s more you can also capture the packaging barcode for this quantity of goods and this will cause the POS and Supply screens to load that quantity when the barcode is read. This means that sales quantity and discount can be automatically loaded by scanning the barcode of the package. More importantly when ordering from suppliers the barcode associated with the quantities being ordered is automatically used to ensure the correct shipments.

Invite the Relatives
Another new addition to the Product screen is the Related Items list. This allows you to keep track of other products that are somehow related to this one. This is very useful for listing alternative substitutes should you be out of stock (the match checkbox can be used to highlight compatible items). Also useful for identifying other sizes, brands etc.

Elite Products
Since most of your business revolves around the products and services that you sell it is no surprise that the product system in Elite received a large amount of our attention. A significant amount of extra features have been packed into the new Products screen.
Imagine Images
Yes many of you have asked and while we have had some partial systems in the past, product images are now fully integrated in Elite. But wait, there’s more, no not steak knives, but customer advertising. Now you can associate a product image and a customer advertisement with each product if you desire. These images can be included in reports and placed on other screens such as sales etc.
 
For our Mitre 10 clients the full warehouse product image database can be downloaded and we are in discussions with being able to access more up to date images directly off the internet.

Screen Tips
The new icons we have are located on the left of the screen, as the Elite software is so flexible you are able to locate these anywhere on screen you feel is most comfortable. The flexibility allows you to add or delete the icons to suit your business or the individual users needs. The new colour in cell feature indicates insufficient stock (in this case) to fulfill the requirement you have placed in the order or sale.
